From Hobby to Thriving Family Business, the Story of Berk’s Beans

Greg Berkowitz (Berk) with 30 years in the electrical industry has a side hobby that has evolved into something much bigger. Berk is the owner of Berk’s Beans, a growing coffee roastery in Concord that has transformed from a garage experiment into a thriving, family-driven business.

What started in 2016 as a passion project for home-roasting coffee, with Berk teaching himself the craft through countless batches and experimentation, has now become a beloved local brand. By 2017, he was perfecting his roasting technique and sharing small batches with friends and neighbors, who quickly became enthusiastic supporters. The word spread, and by 2018, Berk’s Beans had begun selling coffee at local farmers markets, building a loyal customer base drawn to the fresh-roasted quality and personal touch.

By 2023, the business had outgrown the garage and they moved to a commercial location in Concord at 1717 Solano Way, #12.
